Somerlap purchases 7th Canter in 15 years!
20th April 2013

Somerset based garden product and pallet specialists Somerlap have taken
order of their seventh Canter over a fifteen-year period. What’s more, they are
now operating three Canters in total, each of which is customized to ideally
suit their individual purpose. The new vehicle is to be used primarily to
transport the company’s garden timber range, (sheds, fencing, gates, pallets)
and for the most part will be making small trips within a 25 mile radius, it is
expected to average around 30,000 miles annually.
Provided by South West dealer City West Commercials, the new Cante FT 3C13
features a Single Cab and the new DUONIC automatic gearbox. The world’s first
dual-clutch automated manual transmission for light trucks, DUONIC combines the
ease of use and safety benefits of an automatic gearbox, with the advantages of
a manual, the most important of these being fuel-efficiency and reduced CO2
emissions.
As with a fully automatic transmission, the six-speed DUONIC is a two-pedal
system. Drivers can choose between automatic and manual modes, while innovative
features include a non-wearing wet clutch.
Somerlaps Managing Director Kevin Bond explains the reason why the Canter has
been his first choice year after year. "We have been operating Canters for
over 15 years and they are very reliable with a good payload, low service costs
and they look nice." He said "The drivers like them because they are reliable,
easy to drive and come with a good specification. They are a good
workhorse."
With so many years of experience behind them, Somerlaps decision to continue to
use Canter is testament to both the company and the product. "Somerlap will
grow through developing our customer service and a clean reliable delivery
vehicle is part of the jigsaw."
With any long-term purchase, quality of service and support played a big part
in Somerlaps decision to buy. "City West Commercials have proven to be
excellent partners, very professional, open and always wanting to learn from
their actions."
The relationship between the two companies looks to flourish still further in
the coming months with Somerlap looking to expand its fleet. "Somerlap’s focus
on continued investment has been instrumental throughout the Companies 35 year
history. With a new 14 ton Mercedes-Benz Atego planned for the middle of the
year to keep pace with a planned expansion, the motto is simple; make the best,
drive the best, be the best. Quality counts."
