You Tube vloggers KevTee, Luke C, Trucker Jay, Scott Andrews and Trucker Jenko are firm favourites with City West and joined us for a catch up and filmed City West in action at Truckfest South West. KevTee also gave a big shout out to Ollie Leighfield. As we prepare for the Commercial Motor Awards he took time out support our Apprentices.
"Big shout out to City West Commercials apprentice Ollie Leighfield who attended Truckfest South West at the weekend to cast an eye over #NewActros. Whilst working hard as an apprentice, Ollie has also found the time to not only gain his HGV but also his PSV so big achievements from this young man. Keep it up Ollie and all the best for the future."
Ollie added “New Actros defines our City West pillar of ‘Innovation’ and it’s this that inspires me. Being innovative to me means I can explore how to make things better. City West and Gary allow me to explore this every day.”
With over 70 apprentices in the Mercedes-Benz programme, standing out is proving that significant change comes with metaphoric progress and working across the business, challenging the process. Staggeringly,
Ollie is the only apprentice out of 70 known to gain his HGV and PSV licence entirely off his own back. Selfmotivated, his contribution to the busy hub of Avonmouth is not to just pass academia and train but to balance and blend his opportunities to the maximum.
His bond with his mentor is key to his success. Gary Voisey added “What is greater than the learning is the progression for us both and creating a seamless transition to achieve it. This is compounded by the fact we apply an ownership of trust built through expertise and authoritativeness. With my recent promotion, Ollie has the unique opportunity to follow my lead and this gives him more leverage to progress himself but also use his initiative, as my new role comes with more responsibility. To this end, Ollie has proven his autonomy in delivering outstanding workmanship.”
Can do attitude
At our Exeter Depot, Joe Casley commented on Euan Webber “Euan has progressed further than any year 1 apprentice I have worked with, helping strip gearboxes and engine, most notably the Combine V8 we had in recently. I have not seen Euan back down from a challenge yet, and even the more difficult tasks he utilises the resources available to him to complete the work. Be that experienced technicians like his Mentor Chris Phillips, or using the online tools such as WIS/ASRA to identify correct working instructions.” Euan added “I’m focused on my apprenticeship, it’s much more than that to me, it’s a long standing and outstanding career for me.”
