Winter Tyres - Isn't it time you did?

Why you should start thinking about them now

    Isn’t it time you did?

    • Stop up to 3 car lengths sooner.*
    • Improved performance at 7?or below.*
    • Saving you money by keeping you moving.
    • Get more mileage from your tyres.*

    Did you know?

    • Each day of the snow chaos last winter was said† to have cost the British economy between £600m to £1bn.
    • The weather doesn’t have to be really wintery to affect driving conditions. A drop in temperature to 7° or below will affect vehicle handling, and from October to March, UK temperatures regularly fall below that threshold.
    • Changing to Cold Weather Tyres could make the difference between your organisation continuing to operate normally, or not.
    • Cold Weather Tyres are specially engineered to deliver better traction than summer radials and focus braking power to avoid weather-related incidents.
    • Braking distance can be reduced by 10 per cent on cold, wet surfaces and as much as 50 per cent on ice and snow.

    ‘Braking’ news on stopping

If you were travelling on summer radials on icy conditions at 20mph it could take you an extra 12yds to stop than if your vehicle was fitted with Cold Weather Tyres; that’s almost three car lengths!

For further Information or to make sure your tyres are sorted for the winter then please call our Bristol Service Dept on: 08451208274

Bacterial growth in your air conditioning can cause bad smells, poor quality and worse.

    • Bacterial growth in your air conditioning can cause bad smells, poor air quality and a whole range of potential allergens that could damage your health or the health of your staff.
    • Air conditioning should be left switched on all year round to reduce the chances of unpleasant odours and to maintain the operating efficiency of the system.
    • Ineffective air conditioning in your vehicle can reduce visibility (a major contributor to road accidents) due to high humidity.
    • Ineffective air conditioning increases the chances of driver fatigue due to increased physical strain on the body.
    • The result of driver fatigue due to poor air conditioning can have as much effect on driver responses as the consumption of alcohol.
    • Driver fatigue is one of the largest causes of accidents on the road.
    • Badly operating air conditioning increases fuel consumption.
    • Vehicle air conditioning should be serviced every two to four years dependant on mileage to protect the driver and the vehicle.

Check you can stop in time by having a free safety check.

What would it be worth to ensure you, your staff or others are not hurt in a motor accident? Did you know that?

    • If your vehicle does not have safe brakes you can be fined £2,500 and disqualified.
    • Saying that you thought you had maintained the braking system by servicing your vehicle at the appropriate service intervals is not an acceptable defence.
    • Brake fluid absorbs air and moisture over time resulting in inefficient braking and eventually brake failure.
    • Tyres with 3mm tread depth provide 25% better performance and 25 feet less stopping distance in the wet than tyres operating with minimum legal tread depth of 1.6mm.
    • A braking system comprises of several components: discs, pads, servo, hoses, brake fluid etc. All or any can fail.
    • With the introduction of Corporate Manslaughter, Corporate Homicide and Health & Safety Legislation, your duty of care to your employees and others could cost you 10% of your average annual turnover or more if there are aggravating factors.

  6. Free Visual health Check

    Click for details

You could check over your vehicle yourself, have a friend down the pub or have one of our factory trained Technical Engineers do it for you free of charge.

With the time between services getting longer it makes sense to raise your vehicle six foot off the ground every so often to check the brake pads, discs, hoses, tyres, steering and suspension, driveshaft and exhaust.

    Consider the implications

Badly maintained vehicles can increase fuel consumption by over 30%. Normal wear and tear can render a vehicle dangerous and illegal. As a result you could be subject to substantial fines and disqualification or even worse if you or a driver is involved in an accident.

If you employ people to drive your vehicles the introduction of corporate liability places greater emphasis on ensuring their safety.

Don't just wait until your next service, stay ahead of the game. We offer a free 37 item check on your vehicle to catch any problems before they catch you.

  8. Time to improve your visibility?

    Click for details

Poor visibility is one of the major causes of road accidents. Ineffective wiper blades will and do result in MOT failure.

    Did you know?

    • Poor visibility is one of the major causes of road accidents.
    • You could be fined £1,000 and receive two penalty points if your vehicle is found to have defective wiper blades.
    • Frost, heat, ice, insects, ozone and UV radiation can all cause high-quality rubber blades to degrade after 6 months of use.
    • Ineffective wiper blades can result in MOT failure.
    • Your wiper blades should be replaced every 12 months to maintain optimum driving safety (or sooner if necessary).
    • The AA recommends replacing wiper blades at least once a year.

To check for worn blades, run your thumb down a blade and if you can feel it’s worn (splitting or pitted) it’s time to change the rubber.

Additional signs of wear can also include:

    • Uneven clearing of water when the wipers are in motion.
    • Smears on screen when in operation.
    • Unusual noise or chattering as the blades struggle to glide over the glass smoothly.
    • Frame is in contact with the glass.
    • A change in colour of some blades also indicate replacement required.
